About Me

A classic Jan.My name is Jan Pool. I’m a husband, pragmatic engineer, software developer, agile innovation manager, aspiring photographer, coffee geek and knowledge addict.

I life with my wife Adele and our two Scottish Terriers in the beautiful town of Stellenbosch near Cape Town in South Africa. Stellenbosch is a great place to call home. The town is full of life, technology startups  and good wine.

I’m the CTO at NioCAD where we create awesome CAD tools for specialised electronics. Previously, I had the honour of working with some great people at Stone Three.

I have been actively involved with the building of the vibrant Cape Town Software Process Improvement Network (CT-SPIN) since 2006.

I’ve studied electronic engineering at the University of Stellenbosch, but have found my passion in software and business. You can find the output (pattern recognition and speech processing) of my masters work here.

I’m trying to limit myself, but have way too many interests. After all, the world is simply amazing and full of great things. Some of the topics I just can’t get away from includes software development, agile management, photography, innovation, business, economics, complex systems, robotics, artificial intelligence, astronomy and brewing.
